Exmoor Rotary Challenge
This is an annual competition between two Rotary Districts, 1170 and 1200. Two routes are provided, most do the longer one of about 12 miles.
The Rotary Exmoor Challenge is also a gentle competition between Rotary Districts 1170 and 1200 for the Rotary Challenge Shield. Rotarians and their families and friends from each district earn one point for completing the 7 mile walk or two points for completing the 12 mile walk. The Governor of the district with the most points formally receives the Shield at a club meeting. However, non-Rotarians are very welcome to join in the walk (pre-booking essential) to increase sponsorship money for Children's Hospice South West and other local we support. Please GIFT AID the sponsorship and donations if you are a UK tax-payer.
2017 Rotary Exmoor Challenge: Sunday 2nd April
The information below has yet to be updated for the 2017 event. Note that the starting/finishing point is Oakford Village Hall at EX16 9ER
Below you may download PDF files, giving information. routes, etc. Note that if you are planning to do the longer walk you will need the short Route leaflet as well.
District 1200 won with 76 points (57 walkers, 38 doing the short and 19 doing the long). District 1170 scored 45 points (45 walkers, 34 short and 23 long). Numbers were down this year because the wether was atrocious! - well done to all those who braved the wind and rain. They deserved the refreshments provided in Porlock.
District 1200 won with 90 points (72 walkers, 54 doing the short and 18 doing the long). District 1170 scored 84 points (62 walkers, 40 short and 22 long).
The tea and cakes are a big incentive to complete the walks and recover in style!
District 1170 gained 196 points, and District 1200 107 points.
2010 RESULTS:CONGRATULATIONS - DISTRICT 1200 WON BY A MASSIVE MARGIN AGAIN! The total number of walkers was 237. We hope for a bumper level of sponsorship for the charity Children's Hospice South West - last year this event raised over £4,000. So far this year we have received £1500 - but sponsorship money has yet to come in.
In 2005, there was a total of 278 walkers, the highest number ever.

The sponsorship raises a significant sum for the Children's Hospice South West, for which we are very grateful.
