TSUNAMI APPEAL
|
This appeal has generated more money in a shorter time than anything in Rotary's 100 years' history. Money raised in a few weeks was £6,896, mostly from donations and collecting boxes in Bampton, Oakford, and Dulverton. A very special event was the Community Sunday Lunch. |

Children's Hospice South West is a very special
charity, supporting as it does children who are terminally ill and
their parents. Since starting supporting CHSW
nine years ago, we have raised over £75,000 for them. |

This is a Rotary incentive working towards the eradication of polio world-wide in conjunction with partner agencies such as UNICEF. Impossible you may think - but it has very nearly been achieved. There were 350,000 cases of polio worldwide in 1988, and fewer than 600 in 2001. But the last few countries are the most difficult to reach. More information. |
| "The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to support the efforts of Rotary International in the fulfillment of the Object of Rotary, Rotary's mission, and the achievement of world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs." Polio Plus is one of Foundation's projects. | |

The club recently sent an Aquabox to the Sudan Darfur appeal. Aquaboxes provide safe drinking watre and welfare aid items in the aftermath of man-made or natural disasters. |
During the last Rotary year, 2008-9, this small club raised over £28,000 for charity. Of this, £7,400 came from our involvement, with 6 other Rotary clubs, in the organisation of Ironman UK at Wimbleball.
Some examples of where the money raised has gone are:
Other gifts have been made to Bampton Primary School (£1,000), Exmoor Search and Rescue, St. John Ambulance, and others. We have sponsored one teenager for the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme, and we have donated special illustrated dictionaries to all 11-year olds in three local primary schools.
